What is AVID

Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a global nonprofit organization that operates with one guiding principle: Hold students accountable tot he highest standards, provide academic and social support, and they will rise to the challenge.  AVID brings research-based curriculum and strategies to students each day that develop critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas.

AVID at SVMS

Sun Valley Magnet School started the AVID program in 2007 with two AVID elective courses, one for 7th grade and one for 8th grade. AVID has grown into a schoolwide program at SVMS.  Now, there are seven AVID elective classes available for 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th grade students. With well trained teachers, administrators, coordinators, and counselors, SVMS is developing a strong AVID system that will transform the Instruction, Systems, Leadership, and Culture of a school, ensuring college readiness for all AVID Elective students and improved academic performance for all students based on increased opportunities.
